Call for Submissions / Grand River Film Festival (GRFF) / Short Film Competition

Call for Submissions / Grand River Film Festival (GRFF) / Short Film Competition - Deadline Extension / Kitchener, ON / Deadline Date:  Friday, July 30, 2010 by 4:00 PM

KITCHENER, ON - Hoping to submit a short film but running out of time? The Grand River Film Festival is pleased to announce the submission deadline for the BMO SHORT Shorts competition for 2010 has been extended until Friday, July 30th at 4pm.  The extension is thanks to recent funding support from the Waterloo Region Arts Fund. The BMO SHORT Shorts competition is a part of the Grand River Film Festival (GRFF) taking place October 21-24, 2010.

As a part of GRFF, the shorts competition is open to any resident of Ontario and is a way to showcase Canadian cinematic creativity. In its fourth year, the BMO SHORT Shorts competition continues to be a signature event within GRFF and attracted over 40 submissions in 2009. Over the past four years, GRFF has steadily gained recognition as a cultural accomplishment for the Region. Last year, Japanese director Yojiro Takita of Departures - Academy-Award winning film in 2009 - visited GRFF and participated in a number of festival events.

GRFF encourages anyone interested in film, filmmaking or direction - novice or expert - to submit their short film to this year's BMO SHORT Shorts competition. Whether this film is the first or fifteenth production, each short film is a celebration of what this competition was meant to inspire - passionate 'cinemaniacs' creating and sharing their projects with other moviegoers. A GRFF panel will select a total of nine finalists - six from the open category and three from the 18 and under category.

Winners are announced at BMO's SHORT Shorts Chairman's Gala in September.
